Palermo on a Sunday?

Hi all:
Planning a trip to Sicily at the end of November mostly on the East Side. I have a short window to go to Palermo but it would mostly be on a Sunday. Are thing open on Sunday for a new tourist to the city?
Thanks!

Opening days and hours can changed seasonally, so the only (relatively) safe thing to do is check the websites of the places you most want to see. What someone experienced in April, May or September may not be what is happening in late November. Places that would be near the top of many visitors' lists include the Monreale cathedral, the Norman Palace and the archaeological museum. I assume the outdoor food markets run on basically the same schedule year-round, but whether the Palermo markets are open on Sunday I do not know.

When we were there a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday, some things were open as usual, but some were operating on limited Sunday hours. For example, the Norman Palace hours were an hour or two early in the morning, and another hour around lunch time. We didn't go there this trip, but last fall, the archeology museum was open on Sunday morning only; if I recall correctly we were shooed out of there around 1 pm. If you want to see the Teatro Massimo, check their website calendar of events because November is well into opera season. Sunday matinees are not uncommon. If there are no tours, attending the opera would be a fantastic option. Obviously Catholic churches, or at least most of them, will be open for Masses. The Diocese of Palermo website will give you current hours/Mass times for churches in Palermo. Try San Domenico (where Giovanni Falcone is buried), San Cataldo or Santa Catarina. Of course they frown on tourists during Masses, however, if you go to Mass, you can hang around for 15-20 minutes until the close the doors. For Monreale Mass and tourist hours, check their website, https://www.diocesimonreale.it/diocesi/basilica-cattedrale/. The website https://turismo.comune.palermo.it/ was helpful to us in planning. Of course, once you're on the ground, you can always as your hotel to call for the most current information.
