we're flying in and out of Palermo in October for a two week visit to Sicily...looking a clean, reasonable place to stay on both ends of trip...thanks, Marty
We stayed at Bed and Breakfast Palermo Art in June and found it to be clean and reasonable-priced at 70 Euro per night (included breakfast.) The owner Nadia was very kind and helpful. It's not fancy but felt secure, comfortable, and the location is central. You can check reviews on Trip Advisor to see if it suits your needs: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187890-d680580-Reviews-Bed_and_Breakfast_Palermo_Art-Palermo_Sicily.html
I can recommend the B&B (now guesthouse) I used - http://www.bed-and-breakfast.palermo.it/eng/ I wrote this about it: While it took a short bus ride or a ten minute walk for me to get downtown, I thought this a great find, and the Corso an interesting place to call home. With greengrocers' stands, a butcher's shop, a fishmongers and a bakery, the street effectively housed its own little market. My room at the B&B, a good-sized double, was clean and comfortable and furnished in Scandinavian modern. On the top floor of an apartment block, with sweeping views from the terrace, I found it a nice change after a series of older buildings. My landlord recommended a couple of local restaurants - the downtown ones were just for tourists, he said...
Check out the Hotel della Palme on Via Roma. A little pricey but clean, good location and a historic hotel.
grazie mille to those who responded to my inquiry - very, very helpful...Marty
