I will be spending a month in Sicily this February with my last stop being Palermo. I have booked and prepaid Della Vittorie for four nights based on Zoe's reviews of the B&B from this forum. I have decided to add another four days to my Palermo stay. Could anyone chime in on this question? Should I extend my stay with present reservation or should I move to Butera 28 Apartments which has a kitchen in a single room #5. Has anyone had experiences with either of these establishments or have input. My thinking is it would be nice to have a kitchen as well as immerse myself in a different neighborhood. Della Vittorie being in Central Palermo and Butera being in La Casa section. Thank you in advance for any input. Mark
Hopefully you’ve checked current reviews since Zoe’s are somewhat dated. I know nothing of the place you reserved.
We just spent a week in an Airbnb near Villa Trabia. Was wonderful to have a kitchen and washer and experience a more residential neighborhood.
It may be a bit of a hassle but I guess I am glad we stayed at two different properties on our trip to Palermo.
We stayed at a rental near your first choice and really liked that location for sightseeing. Our place was off an alley but that is a very busy area so check noise levels in reviews.
Your other location is a very different vibe. We walked around that area when we visited Garibaldi Gardens and the nearby palazzo... It's still very walkable but you're a little further from a lot of restaurants and, just my opinion, but I thought it lacked any sort of "buzz or neighborhood feel. If you just like cooking, go for it, but Palermo restaurants are comparatively cheap and generally pretty great.
We stayed at Butera 28 when we were there 2 years ago. I liked it, the location is quiet. However I don't think I would move to have the small single room. We splurged a bit and had room 12, which was a nice large apartment, and gave you the Palazzo feeling, but I remember reviews saying that some of the small rooms were very dark. It is an older building too, the antiques and lights are unique, but again, I don't think you will see that in that smaller room.
It also is just not that far from Della Vittorie that I personally would bother either.
Thank you all for your replies. It really does help me. Both B&B's are in the current RS Sicily book. I do not know if Zoe is still traveling these days but I really enjoyed reading her trip reviews.
I have t stayed there, but I found the area somewhat away from the main drag where the sights are. I guess it should be quiet.
Unfortunately Zoe passed away a few years back so she is not traveling anymore.
