Palermo City Center Walking Tour

Hello! We have 4 nights in Palermo in May and wondered if it was worth taking a guided tour of the historic core? We will take 1 or 2 food/market tours while there and plan to see Monreale and mondello beach. Thanks!

I wandered around Palermo by myself, stopping in at a bunch of churches and chapels as well as some other sights. It is a very historic city, though, and the vehicle traffic does offer challenges for pedestrians, so a walking tour wouldn't be a bad thing at all. I just don't have a recommendation for you.

I definitely recommend seeing the Norman Palace.

We spent several days in Palermo last month and enjoyed walking throughout the old town, including a visit to the Norman Palace. We also took an evening Streaty street-market food tour that was great fun and informative. We went to beautiful Monreale, although our visited was dampened a bit by a downpour. You'll enjoy to city whether on a tour or on your own.

Thanks Princess and Lew I do have a food tour and a market/food tour booked. I looked at the withlocals kick start tour but that is the part I’m thinking we could easily do on our own.

I spent 3 days in Palermo prior to RS tour and highly recommend Streaty Food tours. As a solo traveler I love food tours because I can try a variety of local specialties. I took 3 Streaty tours and all of them were terrific! Knowledgeable enthusiastic guides who share very local experiences. I took the night street food tour, the morning market tour, and the wine tasting tour. Great value!

hey hey peggy
you're welcome, just giving different options to check out. we like to do a city or food tour also.
we were in paris october 2019, which was absolutely nuts with so many people. things going on, fashionista week, ex-president cheraq passed with a memorial and viewing in paris, techno-music festival down the main street/avenue. we cancelled a tour because was at a stand still for hours. decided to stop at cafes for wine/champagne, on a mission who had best french onion soup, was up montmarte at la maison rose and best eclairs at different restaurants that i really didn't really find the best. the shells were dry, probably frozen then filled with filling.
hope your tours are great and let us know how things went. thanks
