Palermo/Cefalu

We are planning a trip to Sicily for sometime in September. We were hoping to arrive in Palermo and then go to Cefalu (or some other seaside destination) to get in some swimming and just hang loose for several days then start touring. What should we expect as far as weather and water temperature in late September? Another option would be just to hang out in Palermo for a couple of days. Any ideas or alternatives?? Thanks! Don

Cefalu is a great place to chill out, there are very nice beaches. September should still be warm enough to swim, the beaches start to close up the beginning of October. Cefalu also has a beautiful Norman cathedral, and a big rock behind it if you want to climb. Good restaurants and shopping, too.
