I am going to be in Sicily next spring and plan to rent a car in Palermo to use on the island. Anyone have any recommendations of places to rent from? Thanks -
Hi David
We took the bus to the airport and rented from there. Easy access to the highways and you avoid the driving mess in Palermo. Easy!
You can rent in Punta Rassi airport (more options) or in the city. Check AutoEurope (an US-based consolidator) and also Europcar, Hertz, Avis and Sixt, the biggest players in the Italian market.
A big Italian car rental company is Maggiore. You might try their site for Palermo.
Indeed. Maggiore is owned by the National-Alamo conglomerate.
Is it? Aha. That's why we got such a good rate on out little Alfa Romeo in Catania.
I second the airport location to pick up at. If you plan to stay in Palermo for a few days I'd suggest picking the car up after that.
Thanks for the advice - sounds like the airport is the place to pick up and drop off. I'm all for avoiding city traffic, esp. in Palermo from what I hear -
I should've added: If you're flying into Palermo there's a bus you can take into the city for 6 euro. Drops off at 8/9 different locations. P/ups the same locations to go back. About a 30 min ride w/traffic and depending on where you get off. Have fun. I love Sicily but Palermo especially!
