I was wondering if anyone had any experience with travel from Palermo airport into the city? I would like to hire someone in advance so we do not have the hassle of getting a taxi after a very long flight. Thanks for any advice!
Our hotel set up transportation pick-up for us.
When we flew into Palermo for our RS tour of Sicily last year we took the express bus from airport to central train and bus station. Easy to get taxi there to your hotel. There is also a train from airport, but it only runs once per hour so the more frequent bus got us there sooner. Of course we were already in Europe and had only a short flight to Palermo. After your long trip over the pond a taxi or driver from the airport may be more convenient and comfortable. Although I will warn you that drivers in Palermo are very aggressive so your ride could be more stressful than the bus or train.
What is the hassle? Walk outside the Arrivals terminal and get on one. There are plenty of taxicabs in front
Hi Martin. I took the RS Tour of Sicily in February 2023. I took the train from the Palermo airport into Palermo. Access to the train was very easy as it was under the terminal and it’s where I purchased my ticket (very inexpensive - I think less than 8 euros). The very helpful ticket agent told me the departure time for the next train and where to get it. I only had to wait 15 minutes. The trip was about 45 min. and I preferred it over the bus because I could move around and it was very comfortable. The first hotel for the tour was only several blocks from the train station and I enjoyed the nice walk there to stretch my legs. I hope this helps.
This is what Sarah Murdoch, a former RS guide for Sicily, wrote as an answer to that question asked on her Facebook site. It’s what I am planning to do, also, because I don’t like having my suitcase/bag underneath on a public bus. Otherwise, just go to the official taxi stand.
” In Palermo, I take the shared taxi in to town. Costs about the same as the bus but it’s faster and almost no chance that you’d get your bag stolen. Take a right just after you exit the airport doors, the taxi vans just before the buses are shared shuttle taxis, should be €8.”
