We'll be dropping off our rental car at the Palermo airport then wanting a shuttle to take us into town where we'll stay a few days. Then we'll need the shuttle to get back to the airport on the day we fly out. I have found the airport site confusing. Has anyone used this service?
Carol, I've used the airport shuttle bus to get from the airport to Palermo train station. You'll probably need to use the rental agency's shuttle to get back to the airport or to the bus stop (if it doesn't stop at the car rental area - you can find this out when you rent the car or when you pick it up). As you exit the airport there are signs for buses; buy your ticket at a kiosk/newsstand (you can also get the ticket for when you leave Palermo for the airport) and off you go.
When I arrived in Palermo a few years ago I walked to the train station there at the airport. The train was inexpensive and stopped at one or two stations before the central station in Palermo. It was a fairly long walk getting to the airport train, so the bus shuttle may be easier.
We used a shuttle last fall from the Palermo airport. I just emailed the hotel where we were staying and they set it up. Also for the trip back to the airport. It was reasonable. If I remember right, it was 40 euros.
I think 40 euro is round trip for two?
Hi Carol,
We were in Palermo at the end of May. We trained in from the airport to Palermo and then booked the shuttle from our hotel (Hotel Joli) to the airport. The cost was 40 Euro for both of us. It seemed like the hotel booked the shuttle from a travel agency. We arrived on a Saturday and the hotel was very uncertain that they could book us a return shuttle as it was the weekend, It did work out and a gentleman wearing a suit and tie met us at our hotel and drove us to the airport. The hotel charged us for the shuttle and we tipped the driver. Much better than the train and taxi. If I were to do it again, I would take the bus from the airport and taxi to your hotel. Palermo was lovely. Really enjoyed the HoHo bus and walking around the historical center. Restaurants and shopping were great too. The people of Palermo were very friendly and helpful and we hope to return to Sicily some day. Enjoy your trip. Sherry
Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. Our trip is just 9 days away. I can't wait!! :)
