Just wanted to relate our experiience yesterday here--arrive from the airport, terribly lost in the middle of rush hour and political demonstrations, wife stops us at a fruit stand, waving arms, the owner jumps in his car andLEADS us to the hotel! What a terrific city and people!
I agree, Jerry. Palermo can sometimes be busy and crowded, but the people are absolutely wonderful. If you're still in Palermo and haven't had a kebap yet, you must before you leave. There are some great and inexpensive kebap shops around Piazza Olivella (about one block back on opposite side of street from main opera house - same piazza as Archeological Museum). Just look for the crowds of locals. Also, there's an excellent Sicilian pastry shop at back left corner of the opera house (maybe best canolli ever).
