Palazzo Valentini or Domus Aurea?

We will be visiting Rome in early December and we wished to visit an interesting ancient site. Has anyone visited either of these sites - Palazzo Valentini or the Golden House of Nero? We probably only have time to visit one of these sites.

I haven't been to either, but I remember a few earlier posts (generally positive) about the Domus Aurea. You may be able to find them with the Search function.

We went to Domus Aurea a few years ago and it was wonderful. It is a current archeological site under excavation, but they have added a virtual experience for the tour. It is only open certain days and times so when you are in Rome may determine where you visit. We have not been to Palazzo Valentini but plan to on a future Rome visit.

We have only visited Domus Aurea but found it fascinating. It laid the groundwork for appreciating what sits on the sites now. It explains what the area was like beyond just the structure and the scope is impressive. In hindsight, I wish we had visited it before seeing the Colosseum.
