Palazzo Piccolomini or Hotel Duomo in Orvieto ps don't pull this newbie mistake

I've read all the reviews on Tripadvisor for hotels actually inside Orvieto and, unless you have a great one to suggest, we have narrowed it to these two hotels: Palazzo Piccolomini or Hotel Duomo. The Hotel Duomo seems to be very popular but uncomfortable beds and bells ringing at all times were discussed. The bells would be a deal breaker for me. Palazzo Piccolomini is a little further from the Duomo but looks to still be centrally located. I have noticed that many of the negative comments were very old posts. Unsure about the room size at Palazzo Piccolomini. Some of the double rooms seem cramped attic type. I'm going with spouse during the first week midweek of Oct.

Also learned the hard way to make sure that when you are comparing anything in Europe on the computer that you are comparing the same currency. I got so caught up in the details of stuff that I didn't realize that one site was quoting me in euros and the other site was quoting me in dollars. Actually after I converted the euros to dollars the two sites I was comparing were very similar in price and not the gap that I had thought. Seems like a no brainer to look at that. I use different browzers on different devices and that can make a difference so one device had both in euros and the laptop had one in euros and one is USD and I was slow on the uptake. :)

Callen, that was a good catch. It's an easy mistake to make. I am trying to break myself of the habit of thinking that a euro is close enough to a dollar that the difference doesn't matter. At over $1.20 per euro, it sure as heck does matter.
