I will be in Rome in May 2011, and I want to get inside the Palazzo Farnese (French Embassy). The information I have read is either confusing or worse. The official website is only in Italian or French - I speak neither. Could someone provide practical advice for entry to this fabulous building? Thank you.
Looks like it will only be open to the public through April 24th. Donna
I just checked the French embassy site. After the special exhibition ends April 24, the palace will be closed until May 16. I don't know the exact dates of your trip, but you'll only be able to visit after the 16th. You must email the embassy to schedule a visit, here is their email address: [email protected] Here's some practical info from the website: Visits are Mon-Thursday, at 3, 4, and 5pm. The tour will be in French or Italian. No photos, bring proof of identity, and the visits are free. Let me know if I can be of more help.
One more important piece of information: you must email them 1-4 months in advance.
I may be in luck. I'll be in Rome May 25 - 28. I did send an email to that address just today, but maybe they're still running it through a translator. Wouldn't it be great if all tourist site information contained info regarding camera usage?
Good luck Robert! Knowing how embassies work, this may be one those things where you find out two days before you leave that you can get in.
My question is...why? Why would you want to visit this particular building? When Rome is filled with so many other incredible places to see. On our next trip to Italy we will be staying very nearby. Are we missing something?
