Palatine Hill or Roman Forum

According to Rick Steves' guide to Rome, there is a 11:30 tour at Palatine Hill lasting about 1.5 hours and a tour at 1pm at the Roman Forum. Is it possible to finish one and get to the next tour? Is it possible to reserve a spot before the day of the tour? If one can't do both tours in the same day, which should be a must see?

Tough choice as they are BOTH interesting. you might be able to do them sequentially, I don't know for sure. Perhaps someone else will weigh in. I suspect this is a popular idea. A couple of ideas:
- Book a tour with a private guide or tour company that covers both sites plus the Colosseo. Francesca Caruso is excellent and costs (last I knew)50 euros per hour. 3-4 hours gives you an exceptional experience. Well worth it. By comparison, Walks of Italy does the Ancient Rome tour for 59 euros per adult, 39 per child 6-14. There are tons of companies that do this, some better than others, many cheaper, but large groups. - Alternatively, you could take one of the guided tours Rick mentions, and use Rick's audio guide for the other. This is the heart of the Roman Empire. Be sure to experience it as fully as possible. We booked Francesca so we could get our heads out of the guide books and enjoy the experience.
