Am planning a trip to southern Italy in April. After much reading I am starting to wonder if it is worth the effort to see the Temple at Segesta and The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento (mostly ruins) if I visit Paestum. Any thoughts?

Depends on how much time you have, how interested you are, will you be in Sicily for other places, too? The archeological area in Agrigento is much bigger than Paestum, the building materials are different, but both have nearby beaches. Segesta is like no place else, the temple is beautiful and there is also a theatre and some other ruins near the temple site (shuttle bus or you can walk).
