We're coming off a Ponant cruise in early Sept into Venice (arr 7AM in port) and plan to take the train to Padua for 1/2 day or so, coming back to our Hotel in Mestre that evening, but don't want to drag our bags all over with us.....are there lockers at the Padua train station we can stash our bags and if so is this a secure place?

At the station, along track 1 are WC's and a baggage deposit that costs 3,87 euro. It is open every day 6:30 am to 6 pm. You'll need a photo ID. This plus lots of other info about Padova are in RS Italy book.
