Padua - Vicenza; day trip & Padua tram?

Looking at a simple - day trip out of Padua / Padova. Looks as if 20 to 30 minutes one-way, by train - is that correct? Any other suggestions welcomed. And shows a tram pass available in Padua. Does not appear to be a large area - looks as if of the attractions are within fairly close walking distance - is the tram an attractive option? Thank you.

I used the tram several years ago and it was very easy. Gets you to the Scrovegni Chapel and the center city where the old university buildings and market place are.

I was happy with just walking around Padova - enjoyed the Orto Botanico, the Prato della Valle, St. Anthony’s Basilica, the open-air markets, etc., all on foot. And yes, you’re correct about trains to Vicenza.

We did day trips to Vicenza and to Verona both under an hour as I recall each way. Very easy and fun. We had been to Venice before and also did a day trip there which was sufficient for us. We spent several days in Padua and enjoyed it. We walked everywhere as I recall but we walk a lot.

You can use Google Maps to get distances and walking-time estimates. I got around Padua on foot, but the train station is about 1.2 miles from the Basilica di Sant'Antonio. It's less than half that distance from the Scrovegni Chapel.

We stayed at Hotel Patavium the last time we visited Padua. It's sort of northwest of the center of activity but we found that we could easily walk to the Scrovegni Chapel or even south to St. Anthony's. We enjoyed the "Giotto Under the Stars" evening double visits and found the late walk home in the cool evening rather pleasant. The hotel is quirky and we had an interesting private balcony and a huge bathroom. The breakfast variety and quality was amazing.
