Padua sight seeing

I want to visit the Arena Chapel. What else should be on the itinerary for a half day visit to Padua? Why? Any good restaurant suggestions?

In addition to the Scrovegni (Arena) Chapel, we also visited the Basilica of St. Anthony, which is impressive as a pilgrimage site (walkable from the chapel). We did both in a couple of hours and then headed for Venice. You may already know that reservations are compulsory for the chapel…you can book online or via telephone before you go. Pick up tickets right before your visit. We lucked out and were able to stay another 15 minutes after our tour (first tour of the morning), because nobody was booked for the second time slot of the day. Having this explained to me in Italian was challenging to understand, but I figured it out. There are other diversions in town, but these are the two must sees IMO.

Giotto's frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel broke new ground in art.

The time of your Scrovegni Chapel reservation will dictate the order of your sightseeing.

In addition to Scrovegni Chapel and the Basilica of St Anthony, consider having a spritz and exploring the markets adjacent to Palazzo della Ragione and Piazza delle Erbe (if you can get to the markets before 1pm when things start shutting down).

I would second the recommendation for the tour of the University. The hidden dissection room / anatomy theater is fascinating and so is Galileo's classroom. The best thing is this is still an university and lively with students.

I made two appointments to see the Arena chapel, one 15 minute during the day and a 45 minute visit in the evening. AMAZING FRESCOES!

Have a wonderful trip!

The Prato della Valle is lovely and just a few blocks from the basilica of St. Anthony. It is a park surrounded by a canal that is lined with beautiful statues and makes for some great photos.

Also, if you have time a tour of the Univesity of Padua is definitely worth it.

Definitely have a cappucino at Pedrocchi's! It's a famous cafe and so elegant! The best cappucino I ever had. We also had a good meal at Al Bersagliere which is near St. Anthony's. It was recommended to us by our cousin who lives in Padua.
