Padua or Verona

I'm trying to decide which day trip to take from Venice. Prior to being in Venice we will have visited Rome and Florence and seen lots of churches, museums and ruins. I'm traveling with my husband and 20 yr old daughter who loves art and art history. My husband gets tired of just standing there looking at art. So which site would you recommend. Thanks,
Yvonne

Padua is closer to Venice, so less train travel. Verona is also a great city to see and walk around. We probably walked more in Verona but both cities were favorites of ours.

Verona for walking around a beautiful small city. The medieval center is quite extensive.

Verona is lovely, especially in the evenings. It has much more of a small town atmosphere than your other destinations, scenic river views, a bustling piazza with a market, and the Roman Arena - much different from the ruins in Rome. I would even consider an overnight stay on the way from Florence to Venice. Another option is to take a very early train from Florence, leave your bags at the train station, spend the day, then continue on to Venice on an evening train.

The Scovegni Chapel in Padua should be a MUST for art and art history lovers, and the period of time you're allowed to view Giotto's frescos is limited so your husband will be happy ;-) They aren't too far from the train station, so you could see them on the way to Verona. They do require an advance reservation; check your guidebook for info.

Yvonne, Vicenza...right between Padua & Verona. It's like walking thru a living museum. Magical at nite.

Our daughter's in her twenties with a Masters in Italian and has lived and studied in Italy and she says Verona, which is also one of her favorite cities.
