Is it worth purchasing single tickets for visiting the Cappella degli scrovegni? One of the packages include bus passes. Recommended places to eat?
Definitely put this on your 'must see' list. I don't know about cost because I was on a RS Tour, but it was absolutely stunning.
If you are interested in Western Art it is definitely worth visiting! Padua is also home to one of the oldest university's in the Western world, and a large church dedicated to a saint who was a contemporary of St. Francis of Assisi. A town well worth visiting, IMHO.
Check into the Padova card, as I think a good deal for the Scrovegni Chapel is included among the attractions that the card covers. It is an astounding artistic achievement and worth seeing in any event.
the chappella ticket also lets you into the Civic museum, which is in the building where you get tickets. Last time i was there, we caught a Petrarch exibit. I and my travel pal for that trip both studied literature in college, so we were in heaven seeing original poetry from the 14th century. If you're taking a train around europe there is no need to take a bus from the train station to the chaple. its about 2-4 blocks away. Food is near by.
I was there and it is worth seeing - also the chapel next door to it. You do need to make reservations to see Scrovegni - they only allow you a short time in the chapel, but the Frescos are fantastic.
I found Padua a very walkable town, nothing is very far for walking.

We spent 1 night in Padova enroute from Venice to our agriturismo near Lake Garda in the summer of 2007. This was a lovely town and they had a great market. We booked our tickets to the S. Chapel before we left home just to be safe. We did not purchase any pass for other sights. I would definitely try and see the chapel if you are in town. Have a great trip!
