I will be taking a trin from Venice and traveling on to Lake Como but before I do I would like to spend about 3 days exploring Padova, Vicenza, Verona (and possibly Treviso) by train. Plan would be to stay in one city and venture out each morning by train to vist the others. Does antyone have any recommendations on the better city to stay in and at lodging?
I recently did something similar to what you're talking about-we spent three nights in Verona and did day trips to Vicenza, Padova, and Mantova. Verona is a great base, there are lots of great restaurants. Vicenza is smaller and Padova is a lively university town. We stayed at the Hotel Romeo & Giuletta in Verona and had no complaints.
I have stayed in all 3 towns fairly recently. My preference is Verona for the lovely piazzas and superb passeggiagta. I like the Hotel Torcolo just off Piazza Bra.
We'll confirm that the Hotel Romeo & Giuletta in Verona worked well for us. Verona has plenty of interesting sights, including the Roman theatre and museum with Roman artifacts across the river. Verona can also be as restful as you want to make it, if you're looking for a low-key stay.
I spent 8 days last summer in Verona, and enjoyed the town itself as well as the surrounding area. Best of all, I stayed at local apartment that was very central, had it's own kitchen and patio, access to a washer and dryer, and the nicest hosts ever - they even took my friend and I to local concerts with them. Best of all, the rate was cheaper than most hotels - for an apartment! It was a great experience. Send me a message if you want their contact info.
