I’ll be in Padova for a couple of days this April and will get the Padova card. Of course, I’ll want to see the Scrovegni Chapel, and I know one needs to reserve a time. But, could someone help with the precise order of steps to make these arrangements? For instance, do I start with this website for the chapel? Do I buy the card and then make the reservation?
http://www.cappelladegliscrovegni.it/index.php/en/ It offers (for me, anyway) a confusing range of choices.
Sorry for seeming so thick.))
Some times, we are all thick when it comes to Italian websites. It's been 5 years since I did this.
Looks like you buy the card, then make your reservation on the website.
It appears that you can get the Padova card without the Chapel for either 48 or 72 hours, or get the card with the chapel entrance fee. When with the entrance fee, it also includes one child under 14.
It also looks like you register at the website.
I think the thing that initially confused me about that website is that the (complex) registration process seems like the purchasing process, but is not - you get all registered, then go back through and make your purchase(s) and reservation. Hang in there - the Chapel is very moving and beautiful to see!
The T.O. at the train station both sold me the card and booked the chapel when I visited Padova last July. If the online approach somehow doesn't work, see the T.O. first thing when you arrive.
Another vote for purchasing and reserving when you arrive in Padova. Also, if you're traveling solo, you may be able to get same-day reservations. I purchased my card at the museum adjacent to the chapel and they had space for me half an hour later.
Leaving it until I arrive may be my best choice. My credit cards were rejected multiple times today. Thanks to all for your help.
One other thing: Allow enough time to find your way to the chapel. I'm generally good with directions and had a paper map, but somehow I wasn't clear on exactly which building I was aiming for. I believe I was approaching from an unusual direction, and there was a fence involved.
I also reserved upon arrival at the Padova TI on a September, 2014 date, for a visit the next morning.
Credit cards are routinely rejected if you have not notified your credit card company that you will be traveling outside the US and will be purchasing from international vendors before then. Banks must be notified, too, or your ATM card will be rejected.
