Packing for short hikes in Dolomites

Trying to figure out how to pack light for a 10-day late June trip that includes both Venice (hot, humid, city walking) and the Dolomites (presumably cooler, hiking). What things do we need for the Dolomites that we wouldn't already be bringing for Venice? How much cooler should we expect it to be?

We won't be doing long hikes, just half-day or less. We are reasonably sure-footed and agile -- can we get away with below-the ankle hiking shoes rather than above-the-ankle boots (which we don't own)? Do we need trekking poles? I've never packed for a Europe trip that is also a hiking trip, so I'm flailing a bit.

We are doing the My Way Alpine tour in August. We have hiked in Murren Switzerland several times and only bring our running shoes that we hike in year around. We usually bring one older pair and the ones we are currently using. We usually hike/walk about 7 to 8 miles daily.. usually we find a place to donate the older pair when done touring. They are the ones we wear if it is wet out. We are packing hand warmers in case it’s chilly or shoes get really wet we will use them to help dry the shoes..along with a wad of paper towels. We do not bring poles. Once in Murren hotel had ski poles that my tour buddy got and he gave me one of his. Normally we don’t use them..just something else to carry.

I only saw more elderly than my 53 years using treking poles in the Dolomites. Just dress in light layers and put on and take off as needed. Everyone is different as far temperature tolerance. You have to check the weather the day before you go and dress according to that. For example the day I visited the Dolomites the weather said 70percent chance of rain I brought my light water proof rain jacket with a hood and had it in a back pack. It never rained . I hike in trail type running shoes that come up a little over the ankle and are Goretex

Some trails are smooth trails, others rocky, so it depends where you choose. Sunscreen is needed for sure.
