Packaging wine for transport and olive oil and vinegar

Currently I am staying after a week in Tuscany and Umbria in Reggio Emila. I am traveling back sunday out of Milan. The problem is the wine. I cant seem to find any stores that sell bubble wrap or other supplies that I could use to cushion the bottles. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.

Have you looked for a a UPS or Fedex shipper - generally they sell supplies - some post offices do as well

Google Mailboxes etc. Reggio Emilia - there is one in town, consider letting them ship for you (or just pay for supplies or to have your items packaged for shipment).

A wine store in a touristy local may sell Vinnibags - inflatable double-walled vinyl bags for protecting bottles. Just be aware that these, while they will keep you cloths safe, take up a lot of room in your suite case (and won't go through TSA checkpoints in the states).

Or, a luggage store may carry special wine luggage - luggage with pre-molded foam inserts for the bottles. There's pretty expensive, though.

Personally, I would just enjoy the wine before returning home confident in the knowledge that most Italian wine can be purchased at home.

If all else fails, put them in plastic bags and cushion tightly with your clothes, in the middle of your checked bag. That's what I do most often.

I did find a Mailboxes etc and they sell for just 6 Euros a foam container that holds 6 individual bottles. We bought some very old desert wine that is not for sale anywhere but only at the winery due to limited amount of bottles made each year. Also we are bringing back some olive oil. Since I will be back end of August I just haul the containers back with me. Thanks for everyone's great ideas!

Be careful if you are bringing olive oil in bottles. Wine bottles are quite sturdy. Returning from a business trip, I said "Look honey, wine and olive oil from Italy!" I opened the suitcase and handed her 3 bottles of wine and a pile of clothes soaked in olive oil.

Glad it worked out for you.

You can buy olive oil in metal containers.

I always travel with at least one wine diaper - while empty they take up little room, and are invaluable if you do buy something liquid. In our case it's often whisky! So far we haven't had anything break, so I can't confirm their assertion that each diaper will absorb a full bottle of liquid.
