Now that this forum has helped me realize we don't need to purchase rail passes, I have a question about the P2P tickets. Most of you recommend just buying them as you go along for the greatest flexibility, which makes sense. Do I also purchase the mandatory seat reservations at the same time or is that done in a separate way?

If a seat reservation is required it will be included in the price of the ticket. If not, it will be offered as an option.
Ditto Frank. If you use the automated ticket machines, the machine will prompt you if a seat reservation is required. Wherever you buy your ticket, the seat reservation comes with it.
