We need to get from Milan to Vernazza... a 4-hour train ride from what I read. Do you know if there are overnight trains available? I'd rather spend my awake time in one of the areas rather than on the train (I'll be getting plenty of train on my trip). Suggestions?
Trenitalia.com shows the Milano to Vernazza trip as taking between 3:19 and 4:04, all with a change of train at a Genova, so it would not be feasible to do the trip as an overnight. The two legs of the trip take about the same length of time. The Genova to Vernazza leg has some nice views of the coast. Take a look at www.Trenitalia.com for train schedules. Click on 'English' on the top line. Be sure to use the Italian names, e.g., Milano, Genova, etc. Click on the button on the extreme right of each solution and then the 'DETAILS BY ION' bar to show the details of that solution. If you can take one of the first trains from Milan, you could arrive in Vernazza before 10:00am and be in a better position to get a room.
There are no overnight trains to the CT. Plus, trains don't stop at the CT towns during the very early morning hours.
