Overnight train from Venice to Rome?

I'm hoping to take an overnight train leaving Venice around midnight and arriving in Rome in the morning. I'm having a lot of trouble on the TrenItalia website finding out if this is possible. Has anyone taken an overnight train from Venice to Rome? If so, how expensive is it and what's the best way to book tickets? Thanks!

From the Trenitalia Web site: The ICN train #771 Marco Polo leaves Venezia Santa Lucia at 00:04 and arrives at Roma Tiburtina at 06:52. Fares include €56.50 for a bunk on a four-person couchette, €61.50 for a bed in a three-person sleeper, and €69.50 for a bed in a two-person sleeper.

rebekah,

We found it easy to buy train tickets as we traveled. The ticket machines were easy, since we could choose English. We did buy these early in our trip. We took a 7 AM train from Rome to Venice. It took about 4 hours. Can't remember the cost, but we did pay a bit more for the Eurostar. Very comfortable, with drink & snack service like on a plane.

In my previous post I forgot to give booking suggestions. You can book on the Trenitalia Web site, but registration is required before booking--and the site is infamous for giving people fits when they try to register. You can also book by phoning the German national rail call center. Dial 011 (US international access code) + 49 (country code for Germany) + 1805 - 996633. Your tickets will be mailed to you at home.

You'll pay more if you book through www.raileurope.com than either of the ways listed above.

Hi Rebekah... we did that three years ago. We bought our tickets from the first travel agency we found in Venice because we were 11 friends traveling together and we wanted to be sure we could get tickets. They cost something between $45 and $55 each, we bought them the day previous to the departure and had no problems at all. Happy travels
