Overnight stop in train line between Bolzano and Florence

Hi all,

Back with another question for my daughter studying abroad in Florence. She wants a weekend getaway to nature. 😊

She is thinking to direct train to Bolzano then stop somewhere for another overnight in her way back to Florence, also via a direct train.

She ideally wants a small town on an lake or different setting than the concrete condensed city of Florence.

Both of these towns are on the main train line:
Trento

Verona

Can she stay in town but do a country side walk in any of these places?

Thank you!

Trento has some beautiful trails on top of the bluff overlooking the city. A short walk from the train station is a cable car to the top of the bluff with trails spreading out from there.

Verona isn't really convenient to a countryside walk as it is a fairly good sized city itself. It is beautiful, though, and I prefer it to Florence. You can, however, take a quick train ride over to Lake Garda where there are lovely lakeside walks.

Oh and I meant to ask what is the main train station in Bolzano?

To tell you the truth I didn't know there was more than one. It's labeled "Bolzano/Bozen" on Google Maps and is on Viale della Stazione (a short stretch of a road with many different names) at the foot of Via Laurin.

Thanks!

Any suggestions on where to stay in Bolzano and Trento? She wants to stay in a hotel for safety.

I stayed at the Hotel Feichter in Bolzano and thought it was perfect for my needs. They have single rooms with twin beds for a reasonable (relatively) price with plenty of storage and room for one person. Pre-covid they had breakfast available- that would have to be checked. But if your daughter travels lightly enough and likes to walk, it’s an easy enough walk from the train/bus station to the hotel, and from the hotel to sites in town, including the Otzi museum.

I stayed solo in Hotel Feichter in Bolzano. I found it to be centrally located and also an easy walk to the in-town funicular to Oberbozen.
