We will arrive in Milan at 8:00 am on 9/21 and are booked for 3 nights in Corniglia 9/22-9/24. We plan to take the train between destinations and are looking for a recommenation on where to stay our first night in Italy between Milan and Corniglia.

Looks like it’s about a 4 hour train ride from Milan to Corniglia. Maybe a night in Genoa or Levato. But there’s lots to see in Milan.

Why not just stay in Milan? There's plenty there to fill 1/2 + day, and it might be nice to just get in, drop the bags and take off walking to shake off the jet lag. Go see the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Sant'Ambrogio, Sant'Eustorgio... Hit an aperitivo bar for a restorative, early-evening cocktail and lovely (free) plateful of nibbles.
