Hi there,
We are renting a car in Rome and driving to Pompeii for one overnight. The following day we will be driving north from the Naples area to Orvieto. Can anyone recommend a B&B or hotel that would work for us in Naples/Pompeii area? I am very concerned about theft and car theft in Naples. How concerned do we need to be? I have heard that you should not leave anything in the car and we will be sightseeing all day with luggage in the car because we are in transit. Perhaps we could arrive at a local hotel, drop the bags, etc. Has anyone done this? Many Thanks!
Rome, Pompeii, Orvieto, Naples...all served by train. By all means, if you're afraid of car theft - why rent a car in cities that are well served by train?
We ALWAYS get a car with a true trunk. They cost a little more but the piece of mind is well worth it. We also have started throwing the local daily newspaper in the back window - I don't know if it helps or not but Rick Steves does it so we do too!!!
Just returned from Pompei few days ago and we were also told about the theft from vehicles. We survived, but it is a huge problem. We stayed in a B & B only 5 min from pompei and the owner has us enter a private iron gate and it was always locked and we were told to only park the car inside there when not using it. Good Luck
The official lot at Pompeii is just fine and safe...I've never had a problem there. I would NOT park my car in Naples. We usually park it at the airport in long-term parking (8 euros a day). and take the bus into the city.
