My husband & I plan to take the overnight ferry from Palermo to Naples at the end of September, renting a double cabin for sleeping. Arrival Naples 06:30 a.m. we will then continue to Praiano on the Amalfi Coast by train and bus, or perhaps by boat? Does anyone have any advice re this? There seems to be several ferry options from Palermo. I am also wondering how long it will take by train/bus/boat? from Naples to Praiano? Help???? Vickie
We did this in 05. Took the overnight ferry Palermo-Naples..then took the fast ferry to Sorrento where we based for 4 nights to visit the Amalfi coast. You can reqest a ticket to your destination, not sure there would be a direct boat...you may have to go to Sorrento first.
Ferry is faster than bus/train from Naples...plus, you are already at the dock, it's easy to walk from the larger ferry dock to the "local" ferries. Buy your ticket right at the tabacci shop...
If you decide to take a bus, the bus ticket office is between the local and overnight ferry docks.
Ferry to Sorrento from Naples was about 45-60 min, and very enjoyable!
FYI, there are two options for dinner on the ferry from Palermo...I'd suggest the restaurant, and not the buffet...they start to line up for the buffet an hour early, and it's crowded...the restaurant had great foot, and it wasn't much more than the buffet prices. There is nothing to do on this boat besides eat...bring a good book!
