I am planning on taking an overnight ferry from Salerno to Sicily. The ship is the Cartour Gamma. I can get a private cabin for 94 euro. It leaves Salerno at midnight and gets into Messina at 8 am. I figured it's as cost effective as paying for a hotel room and I don't lose the travel time enroute.
Has anyone done this? Is it a decent ferry? Are there any security issues with being in the port at 11:00 at night? I'll be by myself.
I wanted to avoid the overnight train as I know I won't be able to sleep.
