Greetings all,
Currently beginning the plans for a Cinque Terre/ Florence trip. This will be our 5th trip to Italy, so we feel pretty comfortable navigating trains. It will be our 4th trip to Firenze, so also feel good about that. Assistance/ideas needed for an interesting town to train to after arrival at MXP mid-day. Kind of wanted to just chill for a night and regroup after the long flight from Orlando. I realize the direct train is about 3 hrs. I just don't think I want to spend that long on the train, jetlagged. Have done that before and did not find it fun. TIA. Never would have made that first trip to Europe without the assistance of this group.
If you were arriving in morning I would encourage pressing on, but I hear ya! I think Genoa would be perfect. You are still able to take a fast train that way--just an hour and a half if you time it right.
If you want something smaller and closer, Pavia looks promising.
Thank you, I will look into that!
I would stop at Parma, for the historic attractions, for the small relaxed city vibe, for the food, for the direct train connection to Milan and La Spezia with a scenic train ride over the Apennines.
I also vote for Genova! lots to explore and had lots of great food during the month I spent there. enjoy!
Parma is a great suggestion--just be sure to check train connection from Parma to La Spezia for your dates because I recall something going on recently with the train line, possibly track work? Just in case!
Thanks, all, for your help!
