I am planning a trip to Cinque Terra in early June. I get emails back telling me that most places in Vernazza and Monterosso are not open. I want to be the first in line to stay there when they open. Should I just get on the waiting list? Should I gamble at waiting until April to get this nailed down?
Jane, Which of the five villages would you prefer to stay in? Most accommodations in Monterosso and Vernazza will be operating in June, but you may have trouble finding vacancies. I'd suggest starting to make inquiries soon, keeping in mind that many places won't be open for the season yet, so there may only be staff in the office occasionally. For the current status, you can check: Monterosso Vernazza You could also stay in Riomaggiore, Manarola or Corniglia. Buon Viaggio!
Try her: http://www.elisabettacarro.it In Vernazza, with several locations not directly impacted by the flooding down @ street level. Access from the train appears to be the biggest hurdle. She is hoping to open in April.
Another option would be to stay nearby in Levanto. The train gets you into Cinque Terre in only minutes.
most places in Monterosso are open or will be open by Easter. You can check www.rebuildmonterosso.com for a listing of hotels with opening dates. Vernazza is making progress but it may not be as clear as to when certain places will be open. You should book something in Monterosso or one of the other villages just in case and keep trying for Vernazza. I would not wait until April to get a booking for the CT in June, places are already filling up.
We stayed in Corniglia (and hopefully will this year) and loved it (only thing - you gotta get the shuttle bus up the hill or it's a long hike up with your luggage.
