Hello,
Looking for recommendations for a place to stay 1 night before an early morning flight out of Bologna airport. Would like to stay someplace close to the airport. Would also like the hotel to arrange transportation to the airport.

How early? The monorail to the airport takes 7 minutes from Bologna Centrale to the airport and it starts running at 5:40. Airport hotels aren't actually "a thing" in Italy.
Even if it ended like the monorail in Springfield, a cab would take you to the Airport in 15 minutes before 8 AM.

I am looking at 6:30 am flights. I realize there aren’t airport hotels in Europe but am looking for a recommendation for a place close to the airport.

I’ve heard good things about Hotel Ristorante Emi. According to reviews, it’s a family run hotel with a good restaurant, very close to the airport. I would contact them to se if they could arrange early transportation. they could arrange early. Sounds like a pleasant place to spend a final night in Italy.

Every time I flew out of Bologna on an early flight (4 times, last one in 2019), I stayed at the FlyOn Hotel and Conference Center (see link below). It used to be a Sheraton. They have a shuttle to the terminal. Once I even walked back from the terminal to the hotel after returning the rental car, although I don’t recommend that walk either at night (very dark) or on a very hot day (like I did).
In spite of the poshness, it is actually very inexpensive.
