If you had 6 days in Italy, and you were spending 3 or 4 in Rome, where else would you recommend to go for the remaining time, either by train or rented car or whatever? I have been to Venice, so someplace other than there. I have been to Florence too, but only for 1 night. I am going in late April.
Thanks
If you haven’t been to any of the smaller towns of Italy, yet, that would be my recommendation. Orvieto is handy by train. Montepulciano and similar would take longer but are a nice contrast to Rome.
I’d go to Orvieto or Assisi.
You can easily travel to either one of these cities via train.
I’d also consider going back to Florence, especially since you were only there for one day.
Have a wonderful trip!
Orvieto. About an hour from Rome by train. Charming hilltop town. Good restaurants. Amazing duomo facade.
I appreciate everyone's suggestions, and I will probably go there. Thanks again to everyone who was considerate enough to share their expertise and ideas.
If in Orvieto go see St. Patrick's Well .... I usually look for sites on YouTube to see if I want to go there etc. ... The church in Sienna for instance (a must see) is also on YouTube.. if you have a smart TV you can cast it from YouTube from your phone or tablet ... much nicer in a big format etc. ..... so much to see...so little time! .. enjoy.
