Has anyone been? Do,you recommend? We will be in Lake Garda. Has anyone gone from there? Just wondering if public transport is an option there and back - especially back if opera ends at midnight. We will also be a few day is Venice as well and could go from there. Thanks!
We've been twice and loved it! Because the opera ended so late, we've stayed in Verona overnight each time.
Yes, we have been and it's wonderful. We too were staying in a different town, and there were no trains running that late at night. So i doubt you'll be able to get back to Lake Garda by public transport. We booked a wonderful B&B very near the Arena for the night and enjoyed the post-opera spectacle of well-dressed Italians strolling the pedestrian zone and sitting outside having dinner at 1:00 a.m.
the B&B we used was La Finestra sull'Arena - the window on the arena - and it was indeed that close. You could go back to it during intermission for a bathroom break if you wanted to. The owners were very helpful and the breakfast delivered to your room was very good.
Thanks for,the replies. Will check out that B And B.
I went to Aida in 2012. It finished at 1am !!!
I stayed at the Hotel Trieste not far from the arena. http://www.hotel-trieste.it/hotel_verona_index2.asp
I am an arts lover, but not a great opera fan, and I thought it was a fantastic experience.
Go...it's spectacular and worth any inconvenience it might cause. Just spend the night in town and go back to Lake Garda the next day. It would stress me out knowing that I had to get on a train late at night...I would want to just stroll to my hotel and bask in the wonderfulness of the evening!
Thanks everyone we booked our tickets and our B and B really appreciate your thoughts!
