Our time in Roma so far

We got into Rome yesterday around 2pm. I was really surprised by the lack of traffic. I really expected something on the level of Palermo but traffic here is fairly tame (at least from what I've seen so far. So, the Metro B line is closed this weekend so we decided to hoof it and it's only about a half hour walk from our hotel to the Trevi fountain and we did see alot of neat things that aren't on the tourist maps. So our first night we spent around the fountain, dinner and getting the souvenir shopping out of the way.Paid WAY too much for some stuff at the fountain but oh well! Did get to watch a sidewalk seller get nabbed by the cops while a bunch of others scrambled. Those guys are quick! Today we spent just wandering around the center and taking in all the free sites. Pantheon, Piazza Popolo, Novona, Republic etc,Trajan's Column, VE Monument (great veiws up there),Spanish Steps and other things. Spent a good 13 hours walking around and enjoying everything.Feet are sore but it was great! Kick off the Roma pass tomorrow with the Colosseo.(and B line) Tried the spaghetti alla carbonara, benissimo!! Thanks for the suggestions on that. Paid WAY too much for 4 gelatos. They were very good but not worth the price. Lesson learned, always look for, and at, the price list before ordering.

Ron, it's great to hear that you've been having such an enjoyable time in Rome. I can appreciate the condition of your feet, as that's also usually my experience when I'm there. I usually have Spaghetti alla Carbonara several times during each trip to Italy (you're making me wish I was back there!). Cheers!

You got in on Sunday and those areas can be calm if your lucky, I guess you got lucky. Monday though might look like you turned on the lights and the bugs took off running. But it's Rome and you've got to love it. Wish I was there:)

After one bad experience ordering gelato for dessert at a restaurant in Italy, I decided the best way to have an after-dinner gelato is to leave the restaurant and stroll to a gelato shop. The shop will have the prices posted; you can order what you want, then continue with your stroll....... The busiest gelato shops usually have the best stuff. Don't worry about finding the BEST GELATO. Lots of gelato in Italy is THE BEST.

Yup, traffic was a bit thicker today but still not as bad as i had expected. Weather has been very good so far. Actually on the cold side tonight. Colloseo/Palatine/Forum was awesome. The Metro is easy to use. Was kinda dreading it but nothing to it. I had the Carbonara at a place called da Donato just a little walk down from the Pantheon going towards Via del Corso. Tried a little place in Campo de Fiori tonight called Magnolia. Had the Rigatoni alla'amatrciana. Was awesome! The whole family was happy and that's a rarity. Good prices, selection and taste. Would definetly recommend. BTW - Big thanks to Ron in Rome. Your site has been a big help!
