Otranto - beach and restaurant recs, please!

Hello,
I will be spending three nights in Otranto - if anyone has been in past few years and has any restaurant recommendations, I would really appreciate them! We love food and are pretty open to anything, from hole-in-the-wall hidden gems to fancier places. (Alternatively, if anyone has any “give it a miss” advice, I’d be happy to take that, too!

Also, I know there is a beach right in town, but we will have a rental car and plan to spend at least one day exploring the coast. If anyone know of “can’t miss” beaches or swimming areas that are close to Otranto, I would love to hear about them.

Thanks!!
Kate

Was there last year in July. I stayed at this hotel. I was driving and temperatures were in the 40s C (100s F) so I had to have parking and a pool, and of course air conditioning.

They had an affiliation with this >beach club.

We went to several restaurants and they were all decent. The historical center (inside the fortress) to which we walked every night, had plenty of choices and it was a very vibrant place. But I don’t remember the names except for ViaPunta which was ok (too innovative cuisine for my traditional tastes). Just ask around with locals, hotel staff, check TripAdvisor, explore, take a chance. That’s what I do when I travel to new places. We loved Otranto. Next time I go to Puglia I will stay longer.

Kate -- we were in Otranto in May. We went here: L'Ortale Ristorio twice for heavy snacks and drinks. Loved the tucked away patio, the gin and tonics were made to order and amazing, and the heavy snacks were appreciated after a day of hiking.

We had a lovely lunch at this small cafe as well. The view couldn't be beat and the sandwiches were all really good.

Neither of these were gourmet but they were solid options for food and drink :)
