Other options for Intl. Drivers Permit?

I will be driving a rental for a short time (3 days) and have read I need an Intl. Driver's Permit that I can get at my local AAA office; problem is, I guess my city of 250K plus is not large enough for a AAA office, and the nearest one is 120 miles away! Any other suggestions?

Thank you,
Shelby

I'm somewhat concerned by the laid back attitude of the quote from our fearless leader mentioned by Laura above.

What Rick is quoted as writing is

It’s a good idea to get one if you’ll be driving in Austria,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania,
Slovenia, or Spain — countries where you’re technically required to
carry a permit,

That seems to me to be a very uninterested description of a law. "Technically required"? It is the law, binding on all foreign drivers from outside the EU+EEA. It isn't "a good idea" any more than "it is a good idea to carry your state drivers license" when driving in the US.

I don't think its so much laid back as he is not going to TELL people what to do. He is not your mother or father but is putting the info out there that these countries want you to have one so its a good idea to have one.
