I was wondering if a day trip combo to Ostia Antica/Ostia di Lido beach was worth it. We will definatley be going to Ostia Antica, but I wasn't sure what to expect with the beach in Ostia di Lido?? I was wondering if anyone has been in the last year or so and could help me out a bit. We (familiy of 4, two kids 10 and 12) are planning on staying in Rome this July for a week and taking a day trip to Ostia Antica. I would like to take my girls to the beach for the afternoon for a bit of a break from the heat and city. I just have a few questions if you have the time. First, how is the beach? Is it clean and is there any where to change/eat/washrooms? Secondly, how do I get from Ostia Antica to Ostia di Lido? I have read that it is one stop further on the train? Do I need to purchase an additinal train ticket? How much of a hike from the station to the beach area? Thank you for your help and opinions. It is greatly appreciated.
ps. If there is another beach that is better within an hour or so of Rome that can be reached by public transpo, your advice would be great.
