We are planning to visit Ostia Antica next Tuesday, December 3, 2024. I am trying to book tickets in advance while still in the USA, but their website won't accept my credit card --- "The authorization request has been REFUSED."
Do we really need advanced tickets at this time of year or is it possible to buy upon arrival at the "Biglietteria del Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica"?

No need to purchase in advance
I didn't need tickets in advance when I visited Ostia Antica in late May or early June 2015, so I'd be shocked if you run into an issue now. It would only happen if you arrived on the heels of a large tour or school group that hadn't pre-purchased tickets, which I think is really unlikely. Even then, it would just mean a bit of a wait; you'd still get in.

We bought tickets at the gate in early January this year. The mosaics were all covered up with tarps for the winter then.
