I will be going to Ostia Antica for one day in early September 2025 and have two questions:
1) Should I buy tickets in advance?
2) Which of the sites should take priority?
Thank you for your recommendations!

I visited Ostia Antica in September 2022. 1)It might not be necessary to buy tickets in advance due to the sparse number of visitors during my September visit. However, as a rule, some travelers buy all admissions tickets in advance. 2)I loved the theater, the Temple of the Capitoline Triad, forum baths and the house with painted vaults.
I did not buy an advance ticket, and friends who were there last year didn’t, either. It’s a fairly large site, about 70 acres, and it doesn’t get huge crowds. Best advice is when you arrive just walk past everything all the way to the back of the site, and then work your way forward again so you finish at the entrance. If you get there when it opens you should be able to see it all by lunchtime, maybe a bit longer if you take as many photos as I do.
I would highly recommend getting a guided tour! You willl miss so much if you don't. We booked a tour that included the train ticket from Rome and it was so informative. She showed us things that we would never have noticed and explained the meaning.
Tour was booked on Viator and was called: "Ostia Antica Semi-Private Day Trip from Rome by Train with Guide"
Good luck!

There is an audio tour for Ostia Antica; we found it to be quite good.
