Ossobucco in Milan

Hi All

Looking for a restaurant recommendation please! We have 1 night in Milan, which is our arrival day, before heading off to other areas.

I was looking at foods to try in Milan, and ossobucco with risotto milanese is a dish I keep seeing and would really love to try for our one dinner there.

We're looking for a casual, Mom and Pop type place with this dish on the menu, located somewhere between the Duomo and Milano Centrale (hotelis nearby). Preferably somewhere in the 20 euro or less range for a main course if that's possible. We will likely be exhausted by dinner so it needs to be a casual, informal spot.

Thank you!!

Ossobuco is usually veal and this meat is rather on a higher price.
Same for Risotto Milanese - made with saffron. One of the most expensive spices.

I would suggest take the best you can get and not the least expensive. Quality will maximize the fun :-)

As noted, just look for the nearest nicest looking place when you're ready to eat.

Foodies also post a lot on Youtube you could search for best of Milan eats.

Osteria Conchetta
Trattoria Masuelli San Marco
Trattoria La Piola
La Pesa Trattoria dal 1902

PS: It's Ossobuco (one 'c' only)

It will not be the same experience as being served this great meal in a Milanese restaurant, but it's worth noting that Ossobuco is a very simple dish to prepare as is a Milanese Risotto.
I save the shanks from deer that I process and use them in place of veal. I use a very good quality drinking wine in the stock. The results is sinfully incredible.
Preparing the Risotto takes a bit more patience and a bit of skill but nevertheless is not too challenging.
Quality ingredients (Butter, cheese, wine, mushrooms, saffron) make or break these dishes.
You may find it hard to stay within a 20 euro budget for both dishes.

Not a direct answer to your question but the food hall at Milano Centrale has a bit of everything. Their was definitely risotto, as well as cotoletta alla milanese, a place that specialized in truffle dishes, and I am pretty sure ossobucco as well. It isn't fancy, but there is a ton of variety.

Last May, when we were in Milan, we took a cooking class with a market tour. Among others, we prepared both of these dishes. Delicious!

Ossobuco with a nice Gremolata on top ..... was cooking it some weeks ago. I prefer to eat it with roasted rosemary potatos.
In Munich luckily easy to find high quality and organic veal shanks.

Have to admit that I'm not into Risotto Milanese. I'm cooking Risotto regularely but with either dried porcini or roasted tomatos.
