Orvieto to Rome FCO Leonardo Da Vinci Airport Early morning train

I plan to take the regionale train from Orvieto Stazione FS at 4:48 a.m. on Sept 20 to Rome FCO.
I arrive in Tiburtina at 5:53 and transfer at 6:16 a.m. to arrive in Rome FCO airport at 7:03 a.m.
Does that train and schedule really exist? Mille Grazie.

Where did you find that schedule? Are you looking at one of the Italian train company's websites?

Just be aware that if you are staying up in Orvieto town proper you will need to take a taxi down to the station

I don’t think the bus/funicular runs that early

What time is your flight?
I’d get to Rome the night before, just don’t like risks
Stuff happens

I would not rely on a train from Orvieto to Rome on the day of a flight. I have twice been on a train on that route that has been seriously delayed or cancelled completely. As others have said, stay in Rome the night before.

I plan to take the regionale train... at 448AM .......... to arrive in Rome FCO airport at 7:03 a.m.
My direct flight back is at 10:30 a.m

You do realize that anything short of perfect execution results in di$aster. ?

I would be looking at what the last train to Rome is the night before, rather than planning on a 3AM wake up.

Your trip, your choice.

Hello :)

I agree with what was said above it is risky doing what you had said. Train strikes happen in Italy and train delays also happen. My wife and I always stay in Rome the night before a flight out of FCO.

You will be a little stressed out that morning if you choose to do what you said. And you have to wake up so early.

Hope all goes well

Unless you have the money to buy a walk-up airfare to replace your missed flight, this is a very poor plan. You are trying to maximize your vacation, but you are not making sensible assumptions about public transportation. Do you ever use public transportation at home? Even the best-run systems (and Italy is not one of those) have delays and unscheduled problems. Is this your first trip to Europe? Do you know that besides the long line to check in for Economy Class seats, the airline is under savage rules to deliver your identification information to Homeland Security some number of hours before you land in the USA? You may arrive at FCO before the flight leaves, but still be denied boarding.

By way of example, we had an early S-Bahn near Frankfurt to get to an advance-purchase long-distance train at the HBF. But there was a passed-out drunk in the aisle of our train (we were at the terminal station of the S-Bahn line) and the train did not leave. We finally called for a taxi, because it was cheaper than buying walk-up train fare to Berlin.

No regular user of this board would attempt this Hail-Mary pass.

I should add that my Germany story dates back to when Germany was noted for well-run trains. But much of Western Europe (including Germany) is showing the same signs of "tax-fatigue" by voters, and inability to maintain the level of services for which their governments used to be known. I'm talking about the fact that your home town may have recently increased the charge for building permits and photocopies at the town hall ... ... and it takes longer to get them.

Yes, that schedule does exist.
You did come here for advice, so I also would advise you to stay your last night in Rome.
At the airport?…..sleep in a bit and walk to check in.
In the city?….have a lovely last night in Rome and take a taxi to FCO at your leisure.
Too many things can go wrong if you are trying to squeeze in a last night in Orvieto.
Let us know what you decide upon in the end!

The way your question is phrased makes me wonder if somebody else planned and booked this itinerary for you.

Thanks to all your recommendations. I will stay in Rome prior the day/night before my flight Sep 20,
as most suggested. Appreciate everyone's responses. Love your show Man, on MNT and all the RS
products. Grazie Mille, Alice
