Orvieto to Civita Di Bagnoregio By Bus

Hi,may i find out if there are any bus or public transport services from Orvieto to Civita Di Bagnoregio in late November-December period? Once there we are thinking of staying overnight at Civita Di Bagnoregio. We (3 adults) would have one or two 24 inch luggages. Would it be difficult to get the luggages to and across the bridge to Civita Di Bagnoregio? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I saw that there is bus service, but not sure of your question. But the people who would know are the hotel you booked with. You can call or email them - possibly translating into Italian. Its in their interest to facilitate your visit

I don't know about schedules in November-December, but there should be bus service from Orvieto to Bagnoregio year-round, though I'm not sure about Sundays. At least in the summer there are occasional shuttle buses from Bagnoregio to the Bagnoregio end of the bridge to Civita di Bagnoregio. I believe it's a walk of about 1.2 miles to the nearest edge of Civita if the shuttle bus isn't running. As I recall, it's a bit uphill as you head to Civita. I had no problem with that walk, but I had no luggage.

Even if the shuttle bus gets you to the bridge, you must still walk across it. The bridge is rather long and runs noticeably uphill. I think there are probably people with little wagons for moving visitors' luggage across the bridge, but you should check with your lodgings about that service.

As I recall, the bus line that serves that route is https://www.cotralspa.it/ . I'm not sure what their schedule is like in late November-December, but hopefully you can find that on their website. If they don't have a schedule that works for you, you might consider taking a taxi, as the cost between three people shouldn't be too high.

It's likely that the shuttle from Bagnoregio to Civita has a somewhat reduced schedule at that time of year. Using a taxi from Bagnoregio to the small bridge that leads to Civita would probably be the best option. It looks like there are at least two taxi firms in Bagnoregio.

The bridge to Civita does have an uphill slope, but it's not especially hard to walk across, especially if you have rolling luggage. There are some stairs at the end, but the locals use small motorcycles at times to reach the town so it's not too difficult.

That time of year is probably not ideal to visit Civita, so it would be prudent to ensure that your hotel and other arrangements are well planned. That way there will hopefully be no problems.

You might find it helpful to have a look at the current Rick Steves Italy guidebook, as it has more good information on that trip.

I would wonder if you could get anything to eat there this time of year -- be sure your hotel can feed you. This place is a cross between a ghost town and a summer retreat. Few people live there and there is very little commerce -- unless things have changed in the years since we were there. I would doubt they get many visitors that time of year so would be concerned that the cafe would not be open.
