This will be my third trip to Italy, and I am doing it solo this time, I am a senior over 65. I have used this forum with wonderful help on my last trips. I will be staying 21 days, Roma 5 nights, and then to Orvieto for 1 night and from there to Assisi for 2 nights. Then I will go to Florence for 7 nights and to Volterra for 5 nights to attend the Bocelli concert. I will then return to Florence to fly back to the states. The question that I am having a hard time finding is, does anyone have any suggestions on transportation from Orvieto to Assisi. I can't seem to get any clues on trainitalia but I am sure that there is train transportation. Everything else I have nailed down as far as transportation, and I can tell everyone the travel between town by train is a piece of cake, but I can't seem to find any solutions to the Orvieto to Assisi question. Has anyone else done this on public transportion? Thanks to all! And Frank and Carol thanks for your help last year, Carol seconded my choice of Hotel Berti in Assisi and it was great and very nice people.
On the Trenitalia site it shows that most trains are regional trains and take 2:40 to get from Orvieto to Assisi with a train change in Terontola. It appears to cost $6.95 euro in second class. If I am not mistaken once you get to Assisi you will need to take a bus to the upper town to Piazza Matteotti. There are trains that leave Orvieto at 8:04 and get into Assisi at 10:44 and 12:04 that gets in at 14:44.
