For days now I've been trying to book the 8:57 AM train on Sept 20 from Orvieto to Roma Tiburtina and I keep getting a message saying something went wrong. I tried to buy it on Trainline and also on the Trenitalia site with no luck. Does anyone have any idea why?
I'm trying to go from Orvieto to Sorrento My plan was to take the fast regional train to Rome Tiburtina and then the Italo train from Tiburtina to Naples in time to catch the 14:26 Campania Express to Sorrento. I'm trying to avoid having to go from Termini to Tiburtina if possible. The 8:57 gets me to Tiburtina with plenty of time to catch the Italo train to Naples and also leeway to catch the Campania Express. Maybe I need to give up and find another way to get to Sorrento? I'd like to get to Sorrento around 15:30 or so but I don't want to leave Orvieto earlier.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
That’s a regional train
No need to purchase in advance
Can’t sell out, price never changes, no reserved seats
I’d just wait and try again in a few weeks or purchase day of on the app or at station
Thanks Christine. I'm just worried this train doesn't really exist (at that time). Is that possible? Should I go ahead and reserve the high speed train from Rome Tiburtina to Naples as well as the Campania Express to Sorrento? Or should I wait on that as well? My reasoning for buying tickets ahead is to save time at the station (I'm not a morning person).
it is a long time to September
Now I'm rethinking the Campania Express. People say it's no better than the Circumvesuviana... just more expensive. In Rick's latest edition, he suggests taking a bus directly from Rome to Sorrento (4hrs). But it's not cheap and doesn't run often enough. Orivieto to Sorrento does not seem easy.
When you look at Rome - Sorrento on www.trenitalia.com you will see that one of the services offered uses a bus from Napoli Afragola to Sorrento. That avoids the circumvesuviana.
But anyway, september is a long time away. I would wait another month and then look again.
