Ostia Antica Public Transportation Tickets

Hey all, I know how to get to Ostia Antica (metro B to Piramide stop then transfer to the regional train headed towards Lido). My question is more in keeping with the purchasing of train tickets.

I’ve read that the regional train to Ostia Antica is included in your metro ticket. I am planning on using contactless pay wherever possible for simplicity, I guess my question is, if I tap and go to get on the metro, do I just do the same for the regional train and it counts as like a “free transfer”? Or do I need to get physical tickets and perhaps validate somewhere? If we tap and go does that count as the ticket being validated or is there another step I’m missing? . I’m coming from NYC so am a very avid subway user. Will really kick myself if I get a huge fine for riding a train in Rome incorrectly.

You might want to correct your Subject line to “Ostia Antica”
( not Orvieto)

The Rome tap to pay system is not based solely on entry or a trip, but on time. So if you can complete the trip in 100 minutes, you are good. The exception is use of the Metro, there turnstiles may require you to tap in again if you leave and re-enter.

If you get delayed somewhere, and can't get on the train to Ostia Antica in the allotted time, yeah, you might need to tap in again.

Got it, so sounds like it may be better to get an actual ticket (not do tap to pay) for this particular trip so I don't have to worry about timing.
