Orvieto One-Day Itinerary Advice

Myself, my 2 kids (6 and 9) and my wife will be spending the day in Orvieto on our way from Rome to Munich in August. We arrive in Orvieto via train at 9:30AM and are booked on the sleeper train to Munich leaving at 8:11PM. We'd like to do the underground tour, go to the bottom of Pozzo di San Patrizio, and tour the Duomo including the Chapel of St. Brizio. From the Frommer's tour book we've identified Le Grotte del Funaro as a place that would be pretty cool to have lunch. Is this plan too ambitious: Store our bags at Hotel Picchio Take the funicular to town St. Patrick's Well Walk through town and have lunch Duomo 4PM Underground Tour Low key dinner & make our way back to the train station If that's too much for a day, what would you cut out? Would you suggest somewhere different for lunch? Any suggestions for a quicker, cheapish, take-out type dinner?
Thanks for any help!

I don't think its too much for the day. We had a similar itinerary on our 1st trip there. However, the underground tours could fill up, so I would make time to book the tour well in advance of the time that you would like to take the tour. We had lunch at a small restaurant that sits on top of an underground area that was discovered when the owners were renovating their house some years back. It was a cool little tour of the underground tunnels that ended in their restaurant. I wish I could remember the name....

Michael, I don't think it's too much for one day...it seems pretty doable in my opinion. Inquire when you first get up into the town about the underground tour so you can reserve or buy your tickets. The tour itself is only an hour but is very interesting. Enjoy Orvieto...it's a great town.

Here's another great restaurant where we enjoyed pizza and traditional Italian dishes (ravioli was great) RE ARTU' - Via loggia dei Mercanti. We dined on the terrace with lots of locals. Their food and prices were great. Have a great trip!

Thank you, Mike, Sheron, and Denise. If I took the 5:15 Underground Tour instead of the 4PM, would we still have enough time afterwards to grab a quick dinner somewhere (pizza, etc.) and make it to the train station in time for the 8:11 train?
