Orvieto in mid to late August?

Hello all,

We're planning to be in Rome roughly around the 20th of August (or a few days later).

I've been told that non-tourist areas in Rome get very quiet around that time as the locals go in vacation.

What about Orvieto? If we show up at that time of year will we find it deserted and restaurants and services shut down?

Thanks!

Hi union,

It seems that Orvieto (Umbria) has caught on to become a go-to, happening place. About one hour from Rome - a train ride to Orvieto, then a gondola up the hill, and a city shuttle bus to the main piazza.

It looks like there may be a Folk Festival in August. I couldn't find current dates; so not sure if they would coincide with your visit. Also, it will be packed if there is one. It appears, there is definitely something for everyone.

Browse the links I listed and see if you want to customize your visit or plan a little here and there and see what happens.

Thank you! I hope you have a great time in October and unioncentral have a great time in August.

Looks like a lot of good info to be read under each tab with the drop downs (in the links.)
